Ali
Hassan Gulaid is well known in much of Africa. Born in Somalia,
he has been tireless in reestablishment of that country on the
Horn of Africa. He has served in the United States as Special
Envoy of the Transitional National Government (TNG) of Somalia.
In that capacity he continues to promote Somali reunification
before agencies of the U.S. government.
His experience
in public relations, communications and government/commerce relations
is extensive. He has been successful in merging public and private
sectors, not only with African nations but also in Saudi Arabia.
He served for several years as Liaison Officer with the Saudi
Arabia Culture Mission in Washington and assisted the Saudi Chamber
of Commerce in arranging academic exchanges and acting as a liaison
with U.S. interests in aerospace, agriculture, environment, military,
finance and technology. He has represented U.S. government agencies
with international corporations and assisted more than 50 U.S.
businesses operating in the western peninsula of the Middle East.
For over 20
years he coordinated and executed major exhibits and cultural
presentations by American performers and artists in Mogadishu
and Jeddah. Prior to his duties with the Saudi Arabia Cultural
Mission, he served as head of the United Somali Congress Office
in Jeddah, responsible for planning and managing cultural programs
in Jeddah sponsored by the U.S. Information Service. He continues
to maintain his government contacts in Saudi Arabia and with East
African governments.
Gulaid has
represented Somalia in the United States since 1993. He participated
in the Somali National Reconcilation Conference in Arta, Djibouti
and Somali peace talks in El Dorat, Kenya.
