Congressman
Bill Orton represented Utah in the U.S. House of Representatives
for six years. A conservative Democrat, his large geographic district
covered over 50,000 square miles.
While
in the House, Congressman Orton sponsored a wide variety of legislation
and served on the Banking, Small Business, Foreign Affairs, Budget
and Financial Services Committees.
Congressman
Orton brings to Advantage a tremendous amount of knowledge of
tax law. As a tax attorney and former Internal Revenue Service
official, he can be of special assistance to Advantage clients
with tax issues pending before Congress.
Prior to his
election to the U.S. House, Congressman Orton was a practiced
tax law in Utah and Washington. He is a founder and charter member
of the American Inns of Court, a prestigious national legal organization
-- recognized by the U.S. Supreme Court -- with over two hundred
chapters at law schools across the nation. Congressman Orton is
a member of the Utah, D.C. and American Bar Associations and has
served on various task forces for the ABA Standing Committee for
the Library of Congress. In
2000, he was the Democratic nominee for Utah Governor.
Congressman
Orton earned both his B.S. and J.D. degrees at
Brigham Young University. He is married and has two sons.
