Congressman
Jerry Patterson represented California in the U.S. House of Representatives
for 10 years, starting in 1975. As a senior member of the House
Banking, Finance & Urban Affairs Committee, he worked on virtually
every major piece of urban affairs legislation for a decade and
authored many substantive amendments. Congressman Patterson also
served on the Insular Affairs Committee -- where he worked on
environmental legislation -- and served on the Water & Power
Subcommittee.
Congressman
Patterson chaired the House Subcommittee on International Development
during the first Reagan Administration. In that capacity, he worked
closely with key members of the U.S. Treasury Department and the
White House staff. He also guided international legislation through
his subcommittee in a bipartisan fashion and never had a dissenting
vote from any of his subcommittee colleagues.
As a Chairman,
Congressman Patterson learned how to effectively use the House
rules and successfully managed many bills to passage on the House
Floor. One example was the IMF (International Monetary Fund) bill.
Congressman Patterson was a key House Member who worked with the
Administration to build the bipartisan support needed to win passage
of the legislation that was termed "a vital centerpiece of
our national interest" by President Reagan.
Congressman
Pattersons career includes four years in the U.S. Coast
Guard, a private law practice in California (since 1967) and service
as Placentia City Attorney (1972-75). Prior to his election to
Congress, Congressman Patterson was a Santa Ana City Councilman
for six years and Santa Ana Mayor for two year. He also served
as Chairman of Santa Ana Redevelopment Agency, Vice President
of the Orange County League of California Cities and was a member
of the Executive Committee of the Southern California Association
of Governments.
Congressman

He also holds a B.A. degree in Political Science and Public Administration
from California State University-Long Beach.
